The River (Abhainn na) Glasa in Easter Ross in the Scottish Highlands drains a wide and spacious upper glen that’s ideal to site the upper reservoir of a mighty hydro scheme but it would be wasted hosting just the wee pond of a hydro scheme that Innogy have got planned for it.
I’ve learned of the importance of this site from studying the recently released Global pumped hydro atlas which has identified this site as exceptionally suitable for a big pumped-storage hydroelectricity scheme.
While researching this unique site, with a view to making the most of it, I happened upon Innogy’s plans for a teeny-weeny, itsy-bitsy 4MW Glasa hydro scheme there that’s 1000 times too small to serve Scotland’s ambitions to transition to 100% renewable energy electricity.
It’s my duty to highlight the opportunity that is being missed here and that’s why I am calling for a STOP to building according to Innogy’s silly wee plan with a view to supersizing the plan x 1000, along the lines of my plan which I published earlier at this link.
Glasa Morie Glass Pumped-Storage Hydro Scheme
Let’s not hasten to waste this unique site with an unsuitably small hydro scheme.
Now is the time for all stakeholders in this site – Innogy, the owners, the Highland Council, the Scottish Government, the National Grid, OFGEM and all interested parties to review what has been recently revealed regarding the remarkable potential for the future development of this unique site and let everyone concerned renew our plans accordingly.
I would be happy to have discussions over this site
