The UK’s war on electricity exports from Scotland

Punitive transmission charges, sanctioning the generation in Scotland and export south of renewable energy – wind, solar, tidal, biomass etc. – are being unjustly imposed by the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the UK’s energy regulator, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM) and the UK’s National Grid’s Electricity System Operator (NG ESO).

This amounts to economic warfare by the UK seeking to damage the excellent prospects for phenomenal growth in the electricity sector of Scotland.

Scottish electricity exports are ready to boom, ready to welcome investment and add many new jobs but the UK Tory government hates the very thought of Scots prospering so is allowing extortionate transmission charges to hold Scotland’s electricity sector back and to keep Scots down. It’s an outrage! This must not stand!

Instead, there must be urgent massive investment in additional north-south transmission line capacity to deliver all the green energy that could be generated in Scotland to our valued customers in England and beyond.

This would allow for fair transmission charges for generators in Scotland and would encourage an extraordinary growth in Scottish renewable energy generation and exports.

Give Scots a level playing field and a good grid connection and we will keep the lights on for 22 million people throughout Britain.
