Options to convert coal-fired power station generating units for renewable energy operation –
- biomass back-up power
- hot-salt thermal energy storage and regeneration
- rotational inertia grid stabilisation
See – Torrefaction of biomass to ease fuel-handling burdens
It’ll be easier, quicker and cheaper to make the best of what we’ve already got than to demolish our coal-fired power stations in crimes of industrial vandalism and then have to build everything anew. 🙄
Or one or more generating units may not be converted initially but left as legacy units to serve if necessary as emergency generators of last resort.
- mothball for emergency coal-fired power
After all, one never knows and better to burn coal for a wee while than to let the lights go out.
