There is no good reason for a pumped hydro project to be blackmailed by active feral horse shooters or indeed to make any corrupt payments whatsoever so the government of Australia needs to get a grip over Snowy 2.0’s unreasonable costs and delays.
Snowy 2.0 is sited in the Kosciuszko National Park which is governed by active feral horse shooters.
Not only do they shoot animals they don’t like in the national park but they hamstring projects they don’t like too, such as Snowy 2.0, with red tape.
They tied up the contract with so much red tape as to delay construction and blow-out the costs, infamously with the reported bogging of tunnel boring machine Florence in mud for months and the red-tape-infringing appearance of a sinkhole above the TBM.
The national park red tape frustrated the obvious alternative of surface works which offered the quickest, cheapest solution to soft ground problems by extending the access road for the headrace adit tunnel all the way to the hard ground.
The horse-murdering bastards took their big chance to blackmail Snowy 2.0 😡 and it seems that the Snowy Hydro Chief Executive wasn’t left with any alternative other than to bend over and pay up.
“This week, Barnes also promised to promised to fix the large sinkhole that developed on Florence’s path in the Kosciuszko National Park.
He said Snowy Hydro had recently entered into an enforceable undertaking with the NSW government, including a $300,000 payment to NSW National Parks.” – Renew Economy
Social media is full of Australians complaining about Snowy 2.0 cost-overruns and delays which are not inherent to pump hydro projects but which do follow from a political decision to let evil active feral horse shooters call the shots for Snowy 2.0.
But we don’t have to let these vultures feed off Snowy 2.0.
Let’s cut the red tape, tell the active feral horse shooters where to go, cut costs, safely speed-up construction and let’s finish the job at Snowy 2.0.
